Mohammad Reza Shah reduced to flat blocks of navy, teal and ochre on cream. The face is cut in hard shapes with no shading at all, the crown and the decorations carry every line of detail, and a pale girih interlace runs across the ground behind him. His name sits in a band along the bottom in Latin capitals and in Persian below that.

The crown was not made for him. Iranian jewellers built it in 1925 for his father's coronation, working to a shape that deliberately recalled Sassanid crowns, and he wore it himself at his own coronation forty-two years later, in 1967. He reigned from 1941 to 1979.
