A flat mid-century travel poster in three colors. The Gulf itself fills the upper half as a teal shape cut into orange land, narrowing at the Strait of Hormuz; below it a lenj crosses shallow water under a lateen sail, a date palm leans over the sand, and a sea turtle hauls up the beach. PERSIAN GULF sits across the top with خلیج فارس beneath it.

Hawksbill and green turtles still nest on Iran's Gulf islands — Qeshm, Hormuz, Shidvar and Kish among them — and both species are endangered. The name on the poster is the old one: Greek and Latin geographers were writing about the Persikos Kolpos two thousand years ago.
