Jadugar is what Iranians call him and it is not loose praise — he was named AFC Asian Footballer of the Year in 2004, the season he scored a hat-trick against South Korea in the Asian Cup quarter-final that Iran won 4–3. He signed for Bayern the following year and left with a Bundesliga and Pokal double in 2006. Elsewhere he tends to get called the Asian Maradona, which says more about the people doing the comparing than about him.
