The line at the top is not just copy. Iran Air took delivery of the short-bodied 747SP in 1975 and used it to fly Tehran to New York without stopping — at the time the longest scheduled nonstop route in the world, and one of the fastest. The airline had been formed in 1962 out of two smaller carriers, and by the mid-seventies it was flying that route over the mountains in this picture.
