Fine Art Prints

Framed Prints

The Faravahar set at the center of an illuminated panel, with the three precepts of Zoroastrian ethics above it in nastaliq and their English translation below. The winged figure is drawn flat and symmetrical, every feather ruled, and the whole page is enclosed in a tazhib border of vines, palmettes and lotus rosettes in the manner of Persian manuscript illumination.

The triad is genuinely ancient — humata, hukhta, huvarshta appears in the Avesta and is the shortest statement of Zoroastrian ethics there is. The Faravahar itself comes from the Achaemenid winged disc at Persepolis and Behistun; the familiar reading of each of its parts is a later interpretation, and Zoroastrians themselves do not all agree on it.
